Layout and Community Updates
// going to post into the community soon. If you've got anything to add, please mention them here :)

List of recent (and not-so-recent) changes to the layout and the community. Some of these changes have been mentioned before, but we're bringing them up again because they've gone live -- I'm not sure when that happened. Does anyone know?

Layout Updates

  • Font sizes as strings (they used to be ints) have gone live. This may cause some compilation errors.

  • Custom css box in the customization wizard has gone live, and options related to stylesheets have been moved to a new propgroup. There are also a few new properties. We'll try to get a new tutorial out soon(ish)!

  • (non-fs-specific) lang_metadata_title is a new(-ish) convenience function in the core layer which makes it easier to print out metadata labels. Sample usage can be found at this tutorial.

  • (non-fs-specific) viewer_is_friend and viewer_is_member are also new(-ish!) functions you can use to target content to friends or community members. Just remember that you can't rely on these to lock LJ-provided stuff such as entries, tags, or your linkslist, because people can still see them using ?style=mine.

  • (non-fs-specific)$.show_readlink and $.show_postlink simplify the logic for showing read/post comments links.

Aside from the font sizes, none of these should break in existing layouts. However, I don't think the new functions are used in the system FS layout, so you won't be able to find examples there.

Community Updates

  • Minor restructuring of the userinfo page to emphasize how to make your theme layer viewable. Which reminds me, as much as possible, please make your theme layer viewable and include the link when making your post. It makes things easier for everyone. Thanks!

  • Added a '+' to the memlink of an entry so that mods can easily add an entry to memories.

  • Renamed the "!mod announcement" tag to "!announcement" (announcing in case anyone has that link in their browser history)

Oh, except that the link to the Customm CSS area of the wizard isn't working for me -- it just goes to the Presentation section.

Oh, you're right! I guess I should take that out. It's the proper link, but I guess it needs to be triggered by JS to work. Something like that.

Posting it now as myself. Going to bed soon. Hope that I don't have any major grammatical errors!

Any luck with that tutorial? :)

(You're at work now, I think?)
